Windows 2000 Advanced Server Installation
- Insert Windows 2000 Advanced Server 2000 CD
- Boot from Windows ME floppy with CDROM support
- E:
- Cd \bootdisks
- Run "makeboot"
- Create 4 boot floppies
- Reboot from 1st floppy
- Insert floppies 2,3,4 when prompted
- Messages "Setup is starting Windows 2000" appears
- Setup Notification Screen appears, press enter
- Welcome to Setup Sreen appears, press enter to install
- License Agreement screen appears, press F8
- Partition Screen appears, press Enter to install
- Setup formats the disk as an NTFS partition
- Setup then checks the drives, creates a list of files to copy and then copies files to the hard drive.
- System then reboots, eject the floppy as it reboots
- Windows 2000 AS then reboots
- AS then installs devices and th regional settings screen appears
- Choose Customize Locals and a tabbed screen appears
- Select the General Tab and use the dropdown box to pick English (United Kingdom)
- This sets the locale for all users on the system
- On the input tab add English (United Kingdom) and set as default
- On the General Tab set the default to English (United Kingdom)
- The user and system locale are now set
- The next screen is the Personalize Your Software Screen
- Enter your name/organisation
- The next screen is the Your Product Key Screen. Enter the Product Key from the Evaluation Book which contained the CD. The product key is on the inside right page next the bottom.
- Next the Licensing Modes screen appears, set the default of Per Server (5 concurrent connections)
- The next screen is allow the entry of the computer name and administrator password
- The Windows 2000 Components appears (the default setup requires 423Mb).
- You might want to add Internet Information Services -> Ftp Server,
- You might want to add Network Services -> DNS,DHCP,Simple TCP Services (Echo,Daytime), WINS.
- Also Terminal Services and Terminal Services Licensing
- The next screen is the Date and Time Screen
- The next screen is the Timezone Screen, select GMT
- Select automatically adjust clock for daylight settings
- The Networking Setting Screen appears and the message "Please wait Installing Network Components"
- The Network Settings Screen appears. Typically settings include Client for MS Networks, File and Print Sharing for MS Nets and TCP/IP with Automatic Addrressing.
- Customize and for each device select Client for MS Networks, Network Load Balancing, and File and Print Sharing for MS Nets
- Select optimize for file aharing
- Under TCP/IP set the IP Address, subnet mask and default gateway for each device.
- The next screen is the Workgroup or Computer Domain name screen,
- The installing components screen appears and files are copied to the hard drive.
- Windows performs final tasks of Installing Start Menu items, Registers Components, Saves Settings and Removes temporary files used
- Remove the CD and click Finish
- The PC reboots
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and logon
- The system loads personal settings and the configure server screen appears.
- Choices are Only server, One more more servers already running on the network.
- Only Server means Windows AS Sets itself up as the Primary Domain Contoller
- Reboot and Windows configure the Network and Active Directory
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and logon
- The Configure Your Server screen appears
- Choose File Server and the Shared Folder wizard appears
- Share the folder for Windows clients
- UnderWeb/Media Server Web Server = IIS
- Under Network and Dialup Connections, Local Area Connections 1 and 2 are the two network cards.
